Weight gain and diabetes are not personal failures. They are often signs of underlying metabolic imbalance. Our clinic focuses on treating root causes—using real food, thoughtful medication use, and realistic plans that respect food access, work schedules, and family life in northern Maine.

This clinic is here to support you, your primary care clinician, and your long-term health.

Focus areas include obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, fatty liver disease, PCOS, and related conditions. Care emphasizes practical nutrition strategies, medication optimization (including GLP-1 therapy when appropriate), and sustainable lifestyle change aligned with rural realities.

Led by Mark T. Cucuzzella, MD, FAAFP, Professor of Family Medicine and Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine, with more than two decades of experience in academic, military, VA, and community-based metabolic care.

Our clinic focuses on treating the root causes of conditions like obesity and diabetes, using medical care that is:

  • Evidence-based
  • Practical
  • Respectful of real life in rural Maine

This is medical care, not a commercial weight-loss program.

This clinic IS:

  • Physician-led medical care
  • Focused on long-term health, not quick fixes
  • Respectful and non-judgmental
  • Designed to work alongside your primary care provider

This clinic is NOT:

  • A crash diet program
  • A one-visit solution
  • A place where blame or shame has any role

This clinic is designed to complement your existing care, not replace it. We communicate with referring clinicians.
Our shared goal is the same: better health, better energy, and fewer complications over time. This is a partnership.
Improving metabolic health is a journey, and you don’t have to do it alone.
