
The mission of the Emergency Department is to assess, diagnose and treat patients with urgent and non-urgent conditions, chronic or acute, of all ages in a timely manner.
Houlton Regional Hospital (HRH) Emergency Department has demonstrated an ability to provide prompt assessment, resuscitation, and stabilization of ill and injured patients of all ages.
The Emergency Department is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with Board Certified Physicians, highly trained Registered Nurses, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Practitioners.
The Emergency Department is located in the back of the hospital, on ground level. The department includes a private ambulance entrance separate from a walk-in entrance to the waiting room. It is a 10 bed facility with a triage room, large trauma/cardiac room, safe rooms for mental health patients, private exam rooms with advanced cardiac monitoring system, and a helipad for medical LifeFlight.
When you come to the Emergency Department at Houlton Regional Hospital, you will be assessed by an experienced nurse, trained in triage. The triage nurse will ask you many questions to determine your level of emergency. They will also ask about medications currently being taken and any allergies you may have.
NO ONE seeking medical attention will be denied service for any reason, including insurance coverage or the inability to pay for services.
The quality and appropriateness of patient care in the Emergency Department is continuously reviewed and evaluated through established quality improvement processes.
